Those of you who follow me on Twitter or Instagram may have noticed the plethora of posts about The Air Show and The U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels last weekend. The Blue Angels were at the Annual Smyrna Air Show to perform their entertaining and amazing show. I’ve loved airplanes all of my life, which is probably thanks to my parents. When my brother, Forrest, and I were young my mom and dad would put us in the car, we’d buy hamburgers and drive to a parking lot near the Nashville airport. We’d eat our cheeseburgers and my dad would point up in the sky at the airplanes coming in to land. I think my love of airplanes really is deeply rooted in how much my dad loved them. He loved airplanes, so I loved airplanes.

Every year when Smyrna would put on The Air Show my family would attend. It was an event that we all loved. My parents explained to us that the men flying The Blue Angels weren’t just performers, but they were the protectors of our country. It really did give a whole new meaning to the show. I always have such a deep sense of pride and patriotism when watching these blue & yellow planes fly. This year when standing next to my younger brother, who is now 20 years old, it was just like standing next to him when I was 12 and he was 8. We both had that same giddy, child-like smile on our face while watching the planes fly overhead. Forrest turned to me and said, “We couldn’t be doing anything more patriotic right now”. And in that moment Forrest was so right – we were watching The Blue Angels, their flight is a symbol of our freedom.

Below is a photo of The U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels that my dad took. You can see more of my dad’s photography on his blog Tennessee Outside. His blog is about all the different things you can find in nature here in our lovely state.

You must absolutely see The Blue Angels fly if you have never done so. It is one of my favorite things in this whole world.

Sarah McNeil

Wouldn’t this be a cute tattoo?

I am seriously swooning over Sarah McNeil’s work. I am such a bold color lover but lately I just can’t get enough of pretty pastels. Sarah’s portfolio is full of these beautifully muted tones. I was in love with her work from the moment I saw the portrait of the sweet fox and then the more I looked the deeper I fell in love. Sarah has plenty more beautiful work. Check it out here. I may have to purchase one of her pretty prints on her Etsy shop.

Truche Jewelry

"truche jewelry"

Wandering the many pages of Etsy one afternoon, I stumbled upon the Truche store. The jewelry is handmade by Stevie who claims to love all things shiny. A girl after my own heart. The double chevron necklace first caught my eye and so I continued to look at the rest of the lovely jewelry in her shop and found this awesome “i heart tennessee” (and I do) necklace that is made from bamboo. Take a look around this online shop I’m sure you will fall in love with the jewelry as I did.

Terrarium Inspiration

Terrariums

1. Hanging Terrarium from Score and Soldier 2. Terrarium Postcards by Quill & Fox 3. Mason Jar Terrariums 4. Leaf Print

Every where I turn lately I keep finding different versions of a terrarium. I have it on my to do list to make one for our home. I’m really loving Score and Soldier ’s hanging terrariums and their quartz shaped terrariums make me swoon.  The Mason Jar’s give the terrariums a vintage feel and they have a lovely turquoise tint. Don’t have a green thumb? Why not purchase Quill & Fox’s terrarium postcards.

Come Pick Me Up

"Come Pick Me Up"

I’m normally a bold color palette lover, but today I am loving muted tones. I feel in love with this photo when I first saw it on Pennyweight’s Pinterest. It immediately reminded me of Ryan Adam’s song, Come Pick Me Up (one of my favorite artists). I just love the lyrics at the opening of the song. “When they call your name. Will you walk right up? With a smile on your face? Or will you cower in fear?”

I’m A Nerd – Harry Potter

So, it really isn’t a secret that I am a nerd. I mean, after all, I sit in front of a computer and code websites for a living (not exactly a sexy profession) and I LIKE it! I’ve decided to start a post called “I Am A Nerd”. These posts will be dedicated to all things nerdy – wizards, vampires, comic books, anything & everything Apple. The list could go on and on.

I love Harry Potter more than I probably should. Yeah, I said it. I’m a reader and every time I decide to start a new book I struggle to not pick up 1 of the 7 books in the Harry Potter series that I love so much. It is an inner turmoil I imagine most Potter enthusiasts struggle with as well. Read a new book or reread Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban for the 8th time? I know I am not alone in this battle.

Do you love all things Harry Potter as much as I do? Or are you nerdy about something else?

Dreaming of Summer Bike Rides

"Turquoise Ink", "Bike Rides", "Bike", "Bicycle", "Summertime"

ONE // TWO // THREE // FOUR // FIVE // SIX

Bikes have always been a big part of my life. My dad is a cycler, so naturally, bikes were a pretty big part of my childhood. The 4 of us, my mom, dad, and brother Forrest would get on our bikes and ride all over town. We would usually end up at one of our favorite spots – a playground. Even on vacation we would ride bikes. To this day, when we go on vacation in Seaside, FL we rent bicycles and ride the coast and subdivisions of Seaside, Watercolor, & Seagrove – rarely ever getting into the car.

Isn’t this mint bike just lovely? Can’t you just picture riding around town in this beautiful dress & oxfords without a care in the world

Our New Home // The Outside

New House, New Home

Here it is! Our cute little home. Dan and I couldn’t be more giddy over this little 60s home that we moved into almost a month ago. We were both so nervous to move and wondered if it would take some time before this new place felt like our own. But it was only mere days before this house felt like home. It just fits us. Although, it did take Bellatrix a little while to settle in. But now she seems to be loving it too. Especially the screened-in porch, which if you look closely she is standing in the left hand side trying to pose for the picture (she loves the camera).

I got so excited when I walked outside a few days ago to find that the flowers have started blooming on the vine next to our front door. I can’t wait for the Crepe Myrtles (the 2 trees in the front of the house) to start to bloom. We don’t know what color they will be — white, pink, red, or purple!

I just can’t tell you how happy we are to be in this house. I can’t wait to have the inside finished so I can share it with you. I’m ready for parties, cook-outs, & game nights in our new home. I’ll be taking pictures of the inside of the house very soon!

Teaching Community Classes

Basic Web Design, Social Media, Internet Marketing

Hey guys! I am so excited to share something that I am doing this April. I am teaching 2 community classes for my alma mater, O’More College of Design. I have always wanted to teach and it is a dream to be teaching on O’More’s beautiful campus. Anyone over the age of 16 is invited to participate, regardless of skill level. ”Our campus is a hub of creativity, and we wanted to provide an opportunity for the community to be a part of it,” says Shari Fox, O’More’s vice president of academic affairs. “For someone interested in trying a new artistic medium, it’s a chance to learn from a professional and evaluate whether a full semester course would be valuable.”

Here is a description of the classes I am teaching:

What: Basic Web Design
WhenThursdays; April 5th – May 10th, 6:30 – 9 p.m.
Where: O’More Campus
Cost: $180

Description: The student will learn how to design and develop a simple 3-5 page website. They will gain an understanding of the photoshop skills necessary to build a site and the knowledge of basic HTML, as well as have the ability to launch the site to the internet if they so choose, at the end of the class.

What: Social Networking as a Marketing Tool
WhenSaturday; March 31st, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Where: O’More Campus
Cost: $50; no materials required but I would suggest bringing a laptop if possible.

Description: Twitter — it is not just for telling people what you’ve had for breakfast. Learn how Twitter & many other social networking tools like Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, & Blogs can help grow your business. The goal is for the student to learn how social networking can be used as a marketing tool and how to apply it to their business.

If you are interested in signing up for one of my classes just go HERE to register. I hope to see you in April.

2 Dove Award Nominations!

I have been nominated for 2 Dove Awards in the “Recorded Music Packaging” category! Last summer I had the honor of designing the standard & 32 page deluxe edition packaging for Jason Gray’s album “A Way To See In The Dark” and Aaron Shust’s “This Is What We Believe”.

I knew that my deluxe editions for both albums had been submitted to The Dove Awards, but honestly, I hadn’t really given it much thought. I didn’t think there would be a chance that I would be nominated.

2 weeks ago I randomly thought about the Dove Awards. It came to my mind that I never had heard about the nominees and so I thought to myself, “Oh, well, guess I wasn’t nominated.” So, you can imagine how stunned I was when I received the email on Wednesday, that not one but both of my packages had been nominated in the category “Recorded Music Packaging”. There are 5 nominees and there was my name listed twice. I kind of just stared at my computer screen trying to register what I was reading. It didn’t really feel real until I called my family and my husband to squeal giddily about my big news.

Below is a portion of each deluxe edition.

So, on April 19th I will be attending the Dove Awards in Atlanta, GA (in a really pretty dress) with my fingers crossed that they call my name. Would you mind crossing your fingers too?
